How clean or dirty is your Quartz? I try to keep mine perfect.
As long as your temperature is low enough, and you q-tip (using two clean q-tips, both sides) your Quartz willl stay good indefinitely.
How do you keep your Quartz? How long does your typical banger last you?
I'd love to see pictures of your Quartz. If you have any questions on cleaning, post them up here as well!
Thank you!
can i do is this with just 99% iso?
Glad I could be of help! By no means am I a scientist, and I definitely could be wrong; but this is the information I have compiled amongst various sources that I find to be true.
Please let me know if you have any more questions!
Bro I just copied and pasted that onto a word document...I CANT WAIT TO USE IT AND CREDIT HIGH AND HEADY FROM THE AUGUST HAUS FORUM IN THE BIB!!!! Well done Sir!!!
After doing a bit of reserch into the MSDS of fused silica, I believe it is 100% safe to use :). When fused silica is manufactured (similar to borosilicate, but much hotter amongst other dissimilarities), it really doesn't leave any "pores." ISO itself is definitely combustible, but it needs some type of spark to ignite. As long as your temperatures are low, you negate much of the risk of combustion. What you're seeing in the banger, is due to ISO's lower boiling point, causing it to boil away much quicker than water!
Onto degradation, devitrification, or "chazzing." This occures when built up oils actually change the fused silica's structure into crystalline solids. This is what gives that faded, dark, or foggy look on the quartz. These crystalline solids do not have good thermal conductivity, and if it's somehow changing the chemical composition into crystalline silica, this is actually dangerous to your health, as Crystalline Silica is found to contain carcinogens.
The best way to avoid this is to q-tip after every dab! ISO effectively breaks up the residual oils, but boils away much too quickly to q-tip the oils up. That is why we advise using a few drops of ISO in warm water, so you can efectively "mop" up any leftover contaminents with your q-tips!
Clean your banger how you would clean your ears. Use enough q-tips to where you no longer see any residue in your banger, leaving a white q-tip when you wipe all around.
I'm writing this on my tablet, so please excuse any spelling mistakes :)
Thanks again and other people have looked at me crooked when I’ve said that too but the way it evaporates makes me think that obviously any liquid will enter a hole (pore) and add heat(banger is hot by intention) which forces expansion (added intensity due to ISO being so combustible) and maybe something gets fukd up....that’s how it was explained to me but that could be theory as easy as it is fact...imma let you do the thermal conductivity and quarts degradation research...my brain hurts from this much science...seriously, thank you though!
I'm glad we could be of help! Personally, I've never heard of ISO absolving into to fused silica (Quartz). I'll definitely do some research and update the thread if I find it is indeed negligible to the Quartz.
Thank you for your support everyone! :)
That boiling suggestion was absolutely aces broskees!!!! I have been doing my best to not use any ISO as I was told it’s bad for the Quarts (gets in the pores and destroys thermal conductivity?.?.?.?.? and more importantly since we have a steady heat source-TASTE PROFILE is COMPROMISED) Lmk ur guys thoughts on ISO overall and the fact u guys are only using drops is rad, best method I’ve heard yet!!! ALL LOVE GUYS!!! Stay Kubed!!!
Let it come to a full rolling boil, and you SHOULD see the carbon start to flake off. If it hasn't started to come off within about 30 seconds at full boil, start to scrub. Be VERY careful as not to burn yourself, goes without saying that water is HOT and hot water = hot steam. :)
trying it now! so far so good. how long do you let it boil?
Try to set your temperature low, around 250*-300*. Take an eye dropper filled with distilled water, and begin to "fill" the banger until it's around 1/4" above the dirty ring you have. As the water begins to warm up, drop a few drops of 91%+ ISO/Ethyl and it will begin to boil. Be careful not to let it overfill! As the water boils, you should see the carbon build up begin to lift off; if it's really stuck on there you may have to slightly scrub with a q-tip.
If the above doesn't work and it has been caked on for a good amount of time, I would recommend a deep cleaning solution such as "Dark Crystal." However the above should work, I've been able to revive a few bangers this way.
It's inevitable to get a ring above the coil eventually, as oil will travel up a cooler surface. Best way to avoid this is to q-tip in circular motions around your banger, using new q-tips until there is no more brown residue to be seen.
Hope this helps!
I Get mine clean as a whistle below the coil, but above i have a nice ring thats a PITA to clean.
